Tay Scott Behind The Music on Brandy on the Roxxx

My music is a reflection of my life, so I treat it with care and patience. I never force my music, I let it flow out of me. I give away a piece of myself along with every song I write and/or release. I’m not afraid to push the boundaries and do or say what hasn’t been done or said before. I feel it’s my job to lead by example and creatively inform the next generation that it’s more than ok to be yourself at all times.

It’s authentic, meaningful, powerful and inspirational. My music is a reflection of my life, so I treat it with care and patience. I never force my music, I let it flow out of me. I give away a piece of myself along with every song I write and/or release.

My music is from the heart.

I’m not afraid to push the boundaries and do or say what hasn’t been done or said before. I feel it’s my job to lead by example and creatively inform the next generation that it’s more than ok to be yourself at all times.

How do you think this release represents your current direction: Growing up I have always been heavily influenced by 90’s Hip-Hop and R&B. There’s something about the instrumentation of that specific generation that I find very fun and creative. I feel my new release is a great example of that. I’ve always wanted to incorporate the 90’s Hip-Hop sound and feeling in my own music being that it’s very near and dear to me. I feel I’ve captured the essence of those feelings with my new song. Partially because the other artists and I had a lot of fun while recording the song itself. I do believe the song will reflect that when you listen to it.

The Music…
It all starts with an idea. I brainstorm on ideas in my head first, then I choose a beat that I think captures the feeling I plan to express with my song. After I finalize the first two steps, next comes the final and sometimes the most frustrating part of the creative process, writing. For me, it’s sometimes hard to find the right words to say when writing a song and other times the words just flow right out of me like a river. I find that it’s best to take your time when writing a song because if you force it, the listeners with be able to tell. I don’t have any fancy recording equipment, majority of my album has been recorded in my living room or a friends basement with the equipment we can afford to use.

I enjoy it though, one day we’ll look back and laugh at how much we were able to accomplish with such limited resources. Patience is key in all areas of music, especially when collaborating with other artists. You have to feed off of each other’s energy and be open to suggestions and criticism. It’s a really fun process, I enjoy very much. I’m always down to learn from others around me.

Staying focused…
I find it most important to keep my faith strong and always keep in mind that I was born with a gift that can be used to bring people together, motivate, inspire, help them get through hard times, and also put a smile on their face. I understand that I’m an entertainer and that’s part of my job, but I feel I’ve been chosen to do more than just that. I feel I am apart of a bigger picture that God has created and I’m just here to play my part. I love what I do so that makes my job a whole lot easier and fun for me.

Friends, family and my peers have played a big role in my development and creating, but my biggest motivation is my family. I want to put myself in a position to take care of them and provide them all with a comfortable lifestyle I know they deserve. Also, once I’m in a position of power and can use my influence I’d like to reach out and help those less fortunate. House the homeless, feed the hungry and care for the sick. I have big plans for the world. I’ve always wanted to change it for the better.

A piece of music advise I was given was to always make timeless music. No matter the type of song it may be, as long as it’s meaningful, people will like it and relate to it there was thought put into it. I feel the power of music shouldn’t be taken lightly, it has so much influence over the entire world that it can alter and help change people’s lives for the better.

Currently I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota the home of Prince.
The music scene here is growing and coming to life. The city is getting more recognition for its new up and coming artists and their talent. As an up and coming artist myself I’ve noticed that the music scene here in Minneapolis is a bit competitive in nature. Some artist are more open to collaborating, sharing information and resources than others. Although, I do feel there is a lot of opportunity for an artist to find themselves and create a way for themselves to stand out from the crowd.
